Frameworks of Well-Being

“The human frame being what it is, heart, body, and brain all mixed together, and not contained in separate compartments...”

~Virginia Woolf

The words we choose reveal our perspective of the world and mirror the resonance we carry—revealing the degree of coherence between mind and heart, thought and feeling, intellect, and soma.

As Virginia Woolf observed, the human frame—heart, body, and brain—can not be compartmentalized. In fact, this quote points to the irrationality contained in segmenting of the self favored by modern rationalism, that I discovered while earning my Master’s in Western Philosophy, desparately searching for “Truth” in conceptual constructs.

However, it was Woolf who first illuminated for me, that consciousness resists separation; how the messiness of the body, the fluidity of emotion, and the architecture of thought are all threads in the same loom, very much interconnected and dependent on eachother.

What fascinated me about her work is not merely her clever use of words, but her stance; she craved a more accurate human portrait—one that refused to exile the body from the domain of intellect. Her language didn't escape this complexity; it entered it with precision and grace. She showed that our attempts to isolate the 'mind' often betray deeper fears of embodiment—and that healing begins with a willingness to feel, to remember, to re-integrate all layers of our being. That’s why talk therapy doesn’t neccessarily create the kind of results many first imagine. I know that was true for me. I had to teach myself about my trauma, the brain, and how it impacted my nervous system.

Somatic Integration helps us restore coherence between the fragmented parts of self—past and present, mind and body, protector and inner child, etc. It gives us a new vocabulary for sensing, feeling, and expressing what may have gone unnamed for too long.

When we find language that resonates with our full experience, something shifts. Not just in our story—but in our nervous system, our relationships, and our capacity to feel more whole. This is the space from which healing—and new possibility emerges.
